Johnny
Roe needs no introduction to those involved with horse racing with
over fifty years experience under his belt.
He began his race riding appreticeship under Seamus McGrath in Dublin,
Ireland back in the early 1950s before going on to ride and train
over 2,500 winners in over 20 countries.
Johnny started his senior riding career in Rhodesia (Now Zimbabwe)
before returning to Ireland where he was champion jockey no less than
9 times. His time riding in Ireland included many years riding as
stable jockey to top trainers Dermot Weld, Vincent O'Brien and John
Oxx. With these trainers, Johnny gained enormous experience in the
bloodstock industry. Johnny went on to ride with great success in
Hong Kong and the US before hanging up his boots and training in Macau
for five years.
Johnny now resides in Dublin, but travels regularly to the far east
where he has placed a number of top class horses, both in Hong Kong
and Macau. His keen eye for talent has resulted in many successful
purchases for owners and trainers the world over. He views all aspects
of potential purchases from breeding, through action and conformation
and suitability for the various track surfaces around the world. Although
he feels strongly that Irish Bred horses still provide the cream of
Europe's produce, Johnny provides horses from all over Europe to match
the budgets and requirements of his owners in the US and Far East.
